Virginia B. Peterson, age 64, of Naples, FL. and Wautoma, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010, at UW-Hospital, Madison. She was born July 19, 1946 at Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Lorraine (Hermann) Schmidtke. She married Roger A. Peterson on August 20, 1966 in Wautoma. Virginia was a 1964 graduate of Wautoma High School and she received a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from UW-Stevens Point. She taught 2nd grade at Deerfield Elementary School and later taught at Humke Elementary in Nekoosa. After receiving an EDS degree at UW-Stout, she became the director of the drug and alcohol program for the Nekoosa School District. In 1991, she and her husband moved to Wausau where she was the School Counselor at G.D. Jones Elementary School until her retirement in 2000. Virginia was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Naples, Florida and she also attended Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma. She belonged to the Waushara Country Club as well as Forest Glen Golf and Country Club. She is survived by her husband, Roger A. Peterson; two sons, Ross (Karleen) Peterson, Weston, Florida, and Ryan Peterson, Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren, Taylor, Cade, Anna, and Stina Peterson; two sisters, Marilynn (Robert) Chesbrough, Wautoma, Darlene (Gene) Alexander, Nekoosa; her brother-in-law, David R. (Dawn) Peterson, Wautoma; sister-in-law, Lynda (Tom) Sieg, Redgranite. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her son, Mark Alan Peterson on September 22, 2003. Virginia was not afraid to die as evidenced by the following words that she wanted included in this obituary: God's grace helped me through many troubles, heartaches, and losses. Without His presence, I could not have done it. God's will was done in each case. It is His death on the cross and His resurrection that saves me. The grace of God is my only hope for eternal life. It is not what we do, but what He has already done for us. The good that I have tried to do was not to gain heaven, because I already have that. It was done for my love of Him and what He has done for me. Heaven is my home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma with Rev. Roger Riedel officiating. Burial will be in the Wautoma Union Cemetery. Memorials are being established at Peace Lutheran Church and Our Savior Lutheran Church.
