Life Legacy
Gerald Wakefield of Madisonville passed away at his home on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the age of 97. He was a native of Madison County and a life long resident of Madisonville. He was born on April 8, 1914 in Midway, Texas. He was the eldest son of Ella Vivian Parten Wakefield and Richard Arthur (Babe) Wakefield.
Gerald was a man of faith. He was a life long member of the Church of Christ and served as an elder in two congregations.
Mr. Wakefield was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps. He worked as the Director of Marketing for the Agricultural Chemical Division of the Olin Corporation until his first retirement and was a cattleman in Madison County until his second retirement in 1988.
Mr. Wakefield was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Dora Mae Goode Wakefield; his yonger brother, Troy Parten Wakefield and his parents.
He is survived by his son, Richard Alan Wakefield of Midway; three grandchildren, Helen Cartwright Wakefield of Midway, Richard Anderson Wakefield of Bryan and Heather Wakefield Holmes of Branson, Missouri and two great grandchildren, Madison Mae Holmes and Tyson Leland Holmes of Branson.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Odessa Goode Van Eman, four nephews, Troy Parten Wakefield, Ralph Bristol Wakefield, Danny Mack Goode and Ernie Goode and three nieces, Suzette Goode Laird, Jeana Goode Allen and Kathy Goode Piatt and numerous other relations.
Services for Gerald Wakefield will be held at the Madisonville Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 11 at 10:00 a.m. with a graveside service to follow at the Madisonville City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 10 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Chosen to serve as pallbearers are Kenneth Sherman Wakefield, Weldon Larry Wakefield, Troy Parten Wakefield III (Trey), Danny Mack Goode, Mark Jackson Goode and Ernie Lynn Goode.
**It is the family’s request that no food be sent to the Wakefield home.**
